Bloggers, Vloggers & Social: Why use Influencer Marketing?

The world of marketing has rocketed in engagement in the past few years. 5 years ago, the use of social media was on a completely different scale to what is it today. The number of users has dramatically increased, with over half of the world population now actively using social media. This has lead to the popularity of bloggers, vloggers and social media stars and the huge increase of influencer marketing.

Due to the rapid increase, companies have had to adapt quickly to reach customers in this new landscape. Different social media platforms bring different trends and different audiences. This means that companies have to understand marketing on each individual platform before they do it.

Has the industry always been in full force?

There is one group that has had its a fair share of knockbacks and career endings but has found itself at the very top of the inbound marketing pile: influencers. Although the demand for working with them has both risen and fallen in the last 5 years, it has never been completely lost. Many companies found it better to work alongside celebrities due to celebrity endorsement they would receive. But, as you will read, that isn’t always the case.

Using influencers in your marketing strategy can often seem scary and expensive, with no guarantee of success. So, are they still a good idea?

Understanding Influencer marketing?

Influencer Marketing is when an influencer promotes company products to hopefully result in an increase in sales. The reason companies like to use influencers and celebrities is because of their large followings and loyal ‘fans’ who are always interested in what they are doing and why.

What is an Influencer?

There are different. tiers of influencers in the industry which categorises each individual person or group with their amount of followers. From 1,000 all the way to over 1,000,000, anyone can be grouped as an influencer and grow their followings to move from tier to tier. As followed are the tiers which make you separate from other influencers:

  • Mega Influencers – 1,000,000+ followers
  • Macro Influencers – 500,000 – 1,000,000 followers
  • Mid-tier Influencers – 50,000 – 500,000 followers
  • Micro Influencers – 10,000 – 50,000 followers
  • Nano Influencers – 1,000 – 10,000 followers

Despite the amount, influencers can come from a wide range of places. Any person, group, brand, or place could potentially be an influencer. But becoming an influencer doesn’t always just mean having a large following. It also means, having loyal followers, a certain percentage of engagement and many other aspects. This is because the last thing a company wants is to pay an ‘influencer’ to promote their products when they have little engagement as the company wouldn’t gain anything from it.

Who can be an Influencer?

Although besides just being promoted by someone who has followers, a product will usually get a celebrity endorsement. So, when someone thinks of a product they will link it to the celebrity who promoted it. This form of marketing is unique because it appeals to the needs of the influencer rather than the customer.

Influencers are not all the same. Yes, when you think of a huge influencer, you might think of TV stars, artists, footballers, actors etc. But, they are not the only type which makes it to the top of the biggest influencers list.

1. The ‘Blogger’

Similarly to any other influencer, bloggers put their lives on the internet. Whether this is using social media or their blogs. Depending on their blog topic, they will be giving their opinions, using their own photographs and writing the content themselves. This gives their audiences a sense of trust which they are able to relate to. Some bloggers like to cover a vast majority of different topics, this could be all the way from fashion to travel. Whereas others like to focus on one topic in particular.

Should I work with a blogger?

Bloggers stand out from other influencers as they use their websites (also known as blogs). Some influencers like footballers, gamers or even singers probably won’t have a blog where they give their opinions. Therefore if you are wanting a product promoting, it is easy for them to give an honest, detailed explanation and review due to the way they promote. Whereas other influencers like Instagram stars will have a different technique.

2. The ‘Vlogger’

Vloggers post to multiple social media platforms. Some use IGTV, Facebook, Vimeo. But, despite the number of possible sites to publish on, the most common is YouTube. YouTube is a platform which allows creators to publish videos to its website. It shares a service where users can watch, like, share, comment and upload their own videos.

Should I work with a vlogger?

As already heavily hinted, vloggers are very good at showcasing physical products, as they are able to show themselves actually using them, as well as their results. A brand looking to launch a new product, particularly one that fits into a popular vlogging genre (e.g. beauty, travel, food) would do well to dive into the pool of video content stars to do so.

3. The ‘Social Star’

Although they might have not risen to fame for their specific talent to sing or their ability to play sport, that doesn’t mean they have no talent. There are a lot of celebrities out there which have risen to fame overnight due to the power of social media for various different reasons. As well as this, some social media stars actually have a larger engagement rate and bigger following than some worldwide stars have. This is better for the brands which they work alongside.

Should I work with a social star?

Where social influencers come into their own, however, is brand reputation. If you are concerned with getting your brand actively talked about and showcased to a wide audience, a social influencer can provide you with staggering exposure. The influencer will be able to advise on how best to do so.

Why is Influencer Marketing good for companies?

Sometimes, people see major celebrities as something other than humans who are living a normal lifestyle. Therefore might not be swayed by what they chose to do or chose to wear. Whereas, more people see influencers as people. This is the key point of influencer marketing.

Reality is one of the main factors which separates celebrities and influencers. As people tend to spend more time on social media platforms that going to shows and concerts, they tend to see more influencers and their day to day lives, almost giving them something to relate too. This allows society to get to know them on a more personal level and therefore helps them to gain trust. This means that people in society are more likely to buy things which are promoted by an influencer they trust than a celebrity they know very little about.

How Reducing Web Clutter Benefits Your Website

Want to take your website to the next level? Cutting down on clutter can do just exactly that. Web clutter unnecessarily takes up useful design space on your website. Cleaning up your website will open doors for interaction with your audience. In turn, the numbers of leads you have will start to stack up.

What is Web Clutter?

Web clutter is the excess elements on your webpage aside from your main headlines and content that you aim towards your buyer personas. Web clutter also is the result of having too many elements on a webpage that aim to draw your reader’s attention. Your website visitors won’t know where to look first if you have unnecessary elements to deter them from your main content. Consequently, they may not get to view the page as you intended, get fed up and exit completely.

Evaluate Your Site’s Present Design

Analysing the current state of your site can be of good use. It gives you a gauge of what to keep and what to remove as you’ll find that only necessary content will remain on your site after the de-cluttering process. If your website’s filled with loads of ads, doesn’t have a cohesive colour scheme and is packed with design elements, your audience can be easily distracted when going to your page. This leads to your bounce rate increasing – the opposite of what you want for your website. In case you don’t know, the bounce rate is the percentage of people who land on one of your web pages, then leave.

Less Is More

Giving your webpage a ‘spring clean’ allows your page to be clear of all old and outdated information. Information that was possibly taking up useful white space on your website. Having a good amount of white space on your page gives your viewer a better experience. You may be wondering how this is so. White space draws eyes to your content quicker – the eyes are instantly drawn to what’s different. So, having the right balance of space plus your content creates a better visual experience for your audience. Cleaning your page removes the cognitive load for your audience as there’s less info for them to process.

It Improves Your SEO

Having too many links whether external or internal on your website, can decrease your site’s optimization. It’s because it leads to your site being over-optimised – having an over optimised website is just as bad as keyword stuffing. Basically, keyword stuffing is adding multiple variations of keywords where they add no value. Not to mention it leads to your audience’s attention being diverted easily from what you want them to focus on. In fact, in April 2012, Google leveled an over-optimisation penalty. As a result, link and keyword-stuffed sites were entirely deindexed – the reverse of what you aspire for your page. Therefore, it’s important for you to solely have necessary outbound/inbound links for your site.

Stick to a Limited Colour Scheme

Stick to a set colour scheme – automatically the vibe of your website will be set. If you’re unsure of what colours to use, go for brand colours. This allows your brand image to be cohesive across all platforms you use. Even try to use similar fonts across the board – your audience will become visually accustomed to your brand even with the little details.

Keep Everything Updated!

Outdated content on your website induces problems that you simply just don’t need. They can lead to a lack of security as well as compatibility errors. This usually happens when you’re adding recent tools and plugins to your site. Keeping your themes updated works in your favour – the appearance of your website may be the first impression to some! So, make sure they leave your page with a good one!

Thoughts?

Cutting down on web clutter is, in fact, a form of renewing your website. Not to mention it allows you to stay up to date with constantly changing trends. By doing this and making a routine do this you get to stay ahead of the curve. It’s better for you to consistently cut down on web clutter because your competition most definitely will be!

10 Creative Ways to Show Employee Appreciation

So, as we all know ‘Employee Appreciation Day’ is approaching, but showing employee appreciation doesn’t only have to be on one day. There are several reasons and opportunities to show your staff how much you value them. However, with that being said, now is the perfect time to make an extra meaningful gesture to show your team how grateful you are for their hard work.

If you’re feeling stuck about what to do, here are a few ideas to help you get started with some employee appreciation… Let’s get started!

1. Don’t Be Afraid to Be Silly

We know and understand that an office is a place of work, but who says that we all can’t share a laugh or two. Researching national “holidays” is a good way to demonstrate this – National Cheesecake Day or National Jam Doughnut Day are some good ones. Be sure to celebrate with food and pictures, as we’re sure your staff will appreciate that. Even getting dressed up for Ugly Christmas Jumper day at Christmas or going on an Easter Egg hunt can bring the office together for some fun memories.

2. Let Employees Be Heard

Appreciation isn’t just a game and reward system. It should be built into your culture. One way to do that is to give your employees real choices and actual voices. It could be as simple as having an anonymous ‘suggestion box’ in the office that allows people to put forward ideas. They could be as simple as ‘more tea and coffee in the kitchen’ or as big as requesting a team to go to a three-day conference in London. It’s always good to get feedback from your staff on the workplace environment.

3. Celebrate Those Happy Birthdays

If your staff doesn’t mind (some may want to fly under the radar on their birthday), celebrate their birthdays!

Get a cake (or something they would enjoy if they’re not dessert fans) so everyone in the office can take part. Give the employee a day off that they can use whenever they want in the future. Birthdays are for gifts; what would your staff appreciate the most?

4. Give Out Bonuses

Not every company can afford to give out a big splashy cheque to each employee at the end of the year, but a little bonus as a reward for hard work throughout the year will certainly be appreciated. While money shouldn’t necessarily be your go-to move for getting staff on your side, an end-of-year bonus or gift certificate for completing a project can go down very well indeed.

5. Show or Express Your Gratitude

If an employee has done something well don’t be afraid to highlight it and talk about it. But rather than just saying “well done on [insert task here]”, get down to the granular detail of what they did well. Being specific gives your praise more depth and a lot more meaning to the receiver, and inspires the employee to do even better in that particular area.

6. Offer Career Growth Opportunities

Anyone who’s serious about their career – and those are the people you want on your team – will want to know they are heading in an upward direction. That they are coming into work every day and working towards a goal. You can send employees to leadership training or let them choose an online class they would like to take. Even if it’s not directly related to their current job, you can show your employees you’re invested in them and their career.

7. Get to Know Your Employees

We’re sure you know their names and job titles, but how much do you really know about your staff? Do you know what says “I appreciate you” really well? Showing that appreciation in a manner that is unique to each person. If you want to show how much you appreciate an individual, the best way to do it is to find out what they really like, what they’d be interested in, their hobbies, or what they want the most.

8. Be Open, Honest and Transparent

When bad news happens within a company – which it inevitably does – senior management can often make the mistake of keeping this to themselves, and we understand why. For example, if you lose a client, you might not want to cause a drop in morale so you keep it quiet until it’s suddenly just common knowledge.

While there are, of course, some things that can’t be discussed, keeping employees informed of what’s really going on in the company can go a long way. It makes people feel involved and helps to create a “we’re all in this together” vibe.

9. Allow Employees Extra Time Off

When people take time off, it’s usually because they’re sick, need to catch an appointment, or on holiday. The employee has to be the one to initiate the time off, but what if they were told that they can take a day off just because? As much as your employees may love to work, a day away from the office can work miracles. Let them take the day off to do whatever they want, and they’ll come back refreshed and rejuvenated.

10. Say ‘Thank You’

We’ve already talked about praise, but it’s that simple. Now, one of the quickest, easiest and simplest ways to show your staff that you value them is to give them a little ‘thank you’ after a job well done. Demonstrating this face-to-face is better, but we know they’ll appreciate a little email too.

In a sometimes thankless world, just hearing another person acknowledge that they know we are working hard and that they are thankful for it is all the employee appreciation we need to get through the day.

You may have an established subscriber list. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continually add to and develop it. Doing this can be gainful as it means you’re developing brand awareness for your company. To expand your subscriber list, include subscription forms on your blog and home pages, without it outshining the other content you want your audience to pay attention to. So, maintain a balance with this so your website still has an organised aesthetic.

5. Don’t flood your subscriber’s inbox

Be careful of how often you’re emailing your subscribers. Flooding your subscribers’ inbox can irritate your leads & customers. Therefore, resulting in them getting peeved and then choosing to unsubscribe from your mailing list.

6. Utilise all your call to actions

Including a call to action in your emails can be greatly advantageous to your email marketing strategy. Calls to action are so effective and beneficial that they can also further the effectiveness of your content and social media marketing as well. With calls to action, your audience won’t be perplexed about what to do or where to go next. As a consequence, the buyer goes through the different stages of the buyer’s journey increasingly easily.

7. See what is working best for you

Over time, the numbers of marketing emails opened on a mobile device have steadily increased. This may not be surprising as we’ve grown and are still growing into this digital era. However, not all companies are optimising their emails to be opened on mobile devices. As a result of not optimising for mobile devices, your email may not even appear to your audience as intended.

8. Catch your audiences’ eye

Staying relevant will greatly benefit your strategy. The reason being is that relevant content catches the eyes of your audience at ease. Also, their attention is automatically retained, because of relevancy. Not to mention, having relevant content in your emails positions you as an authoritative figure. You will build trust between both you and your audience. Plus, you’ll be reputable to them after consistently posting relevant content. But it’s also important to consistently analyse your audience, as you have to be relevant to them and not to those who are outside of your target market.

9. Analyse and measure the results

By using an online analytics tool, you have full oversight of your email marketing work & how it’s doing with your audience. Plus, you’ll be able to spot trends in your marketing strategy and see what marketing content you’re implementing is working and what marketing isn’t doing so well with your audience.

10. Double-check everything

Always analyse and evaluate your emails before posting them out. By no means send anything out without ensuring its working correctly. Furthermore, check the emails you plan to send on various devices e.g. smartphones and tablets to ensure they appear as intended. So, don’t expect your audience to just come across your email sat at a desktop. It’s important to make sure your emails appear as professional and as intended.
